  Victor Type D Specifications:

Sorry... the Victor Type D was sold on August 31, 2005. Just the same, below are some photos of our 1904 Victor Type D. The restoration of this talking machine was completed January 18, 2005.

Victor Type D The Victor Type D was manufactured by The Victor Talking Machine Co. from 1903 to 1907 and was originally priced from $55 to $60. The Type D was the first Victor designed with a 12-inch turntable concurrent with the introduction of Victor's new 12-inch diameter records. The cabinet of Type D Victors manufactured from 1903 until late 1906 was similar in style, but larger than that of the Monarch Special. Made of top-grade quartersawed oak, the cabinet housed a three-spring motor. In October 1906, a new plainer cabinet was introduced for the Type D. The new cabinet offered simple, straight sides with plain corner columns, and most instruments with this later cabinet style carried the designation "V" rather than "D" on the ID plate. This rare version of the Victor D comes with the earlier style case including a triple-spring spiral-drive motor, an Exhibition Reproducer with a quick-release lever, an unusual early Victor speed control, and the Victor No 22 WO Horn with a 22-inch Bell and made of Quartered Oak Crossbanded Veneers. A detailed description and history of the Victor D are available on page 23 of the current "Look for the Dog" book (available for $19.95).

This oak talking machine has been completely restored back to factory condition using the same techniques as when the machine was new. Shellac and varnish have been applied and hand rubbed between coats which completely duplicates the original finish. Of course the motor and reproducer have been rebuilt to insure hours of music and fun.
